DO WE REQUIRE VACCINATIONS

AT ACTON LEADERSHIP ACADEMY?

Do We Require Vaccinations?

The question of vaccinations is an important one, and in the wake of COVID-19, it has become even more relevant for families considering different education options. At Acton Leadership Academy, we believe in being transparent and deliberate about our approach while respecting parental choice.

Our Policy on Vaccinations

Simply put, we ask all families to provide their learner’s vaccination records upon enrollment. This is a requirement by the state, which mandates that we submit records for all enrolled learners. However, we do not personally verify or track individual vaccination statuses. If a family chooses not to vaccinate, we also accept the official exemption affidavit as allowed by law.

This policy reflects our core belief: parents know what is best for their families. Our role is to partner with families, not dictate personal health decisions.

Why This Approach?

At Acton, we operate on trust. Just as we trust learners to take charge of their own education, we extend the same respect to parents in making choices for their children’s health and wellness.

This philosophy isn’t new for us. During COVID-19, for example, we chose not to mandate masks, instead allowing each family to decide what was best for them. Whether it’s health decisions or learning pathways, our goal is to support families in making informed, intentional choices.

Addressing Recent Media Attention

Recently, our school was mentioned in the media for having a low vaccination rate. The data cited was based on select grade levels, which doesn’t align with how we structure learning at Acton. Our learner population is small, and some years may have different vaccination statistics than others. However, because we don’t track or evaluate these records beyond reporting requirements, we weren’t even aware of the numbers until the article surfaced.

A Community That Respects Choice

One of the most beautiful aspects of our community is its diversity of thought. Some families fully vaccinate, others choose alternative schedules, and some opt out entirely. Regardless of these choices, we are all part of a respectful, thriving community that values conversation over conflict.

Unfortunately, modern society often struggles with disagreement. Too often, differing opinions create division rather than discussion. At Acton, we believe it’s possible to hold different perspectives while still working together, growing, and even changing our minds over time.

We are committed to fostering an environment where

respect, trust, and thoughtful dialogue

guide our interactions. No matter where a family stands on vaccinations—or any other personal decision—we believe in supporting each other as fellow humans on a shared journey.
